Package: FaithfulClone
hello, looking at this, the license on cdb is listed as gpl v3, however looking at repos on both https://github.com/Faithful-Resource-Pack and https://github.com/ClassicFaithful they both seem to use a custom license on all of there repos, nothing osi approved.
Ok thanks yeah didnt notice that. Does that mean I can't upload it here?
Does that mean I can't upload it here?
yes, content needs to be under open source
But right here it says that "All of our work is free and open source...": https://github.com/Faithful-Resource-Pack
Also "The term open source refers to something people can modify and share because its design is publicly accessible.": https://opensource.com/resources/what-open-source Which Faithful is!
They're lying, Faithful is not open source or free
Open Source is defined here: https://opensource.org/osd
Faithful is not open source as it restricts monetisation. It also contains a clause that allows them to prevent modification/redistribution, which is against the rules of ContentDB, and also makes it not open source:
1: Refuse the ability to use, distribute, or modify any assets from us. This action would be final, generally only in the case of unusual circumstances. - From https://github.com/Faithful-Resource-Pack/Faithful-Java-32x/blob/main/LICENSE.txt
ContentDB doesn't necessarily prohibit non-open source packages, but historically I've not allowed custom licenses.
Oh ok Thank You! So where could I upload this? Cause I still want my work to be shared.
GitHub allows this content, users would have to install manually. Alternatively, someone could make a ContentDB instance that doesn't have restrictions on allowed licenses (see https://content.minetest.net/policy_and_guidance/#41-allowed-licenses ), providing they are legal
Okay Thank You for your time!
