"Less Dirt" extends the grass growth on the side of blocks so rolling hills show less exposed bare dirt. Also does the same for snow, forest litter, moss, etc. This improves screenshots but doesn't alter nodes.
Removes a piece of Minecraft's style legacy that Notch might not have gotten right.

Not needed as much now since MTG applied some of the changes this texturepack brings. There are still things this texturepack 'fixes' though

I think that this texture pack helps create a more harmonious landscape visual, especially where there are hills and mountains.
