Submission for the Minetest Game Jam 2021
Can you guess which cube to hit last?

Description

You will spawn in a small room with 4 cubes. Your goal is to guess which cubes you need to hit before the last one. The cube turned grey? Then you're doing good. The cube turned red? Uh oh... that was the cube you needed to hit last. The cube turned green? Well done! This is the way to go.
Type /luckydude to display help and /pts [<name>] to see your own or someone else's score.

  • 100% luck based game

There are games that are somehow based on luck, but here it's just pure luck. I personally don't get where is supposed to be the fun/challenge in pressing a cube, hoping that it's not the wrong one, over and over. Music and main menu are very nice, but the gaming experience is quite debatable (and kind of absent, it's just one room)

  • Just a Clicker Game

On average each board gives .75 pts ((.25-3)+(.25-1)+(.251)+(.256)). In the long run, it’s not really about luck; just click as fast as you can.

There should be a leaderboard. I beat Xenon’s score on the server someone mentioned here, but I don’t know if I beat everyone’s score, because I can’t see a leaderboard.

I would not recommend this game because it’s just a battle of who can click the most.

  • Demineur without deduction

Not really a puzzle because there is nothing to solve. It works though.

  • Not much to do

This game work well, no crashes, but you only have to click in some of 4 squares, this is all the gameplay. I miss more levels or new challenges.

  • Surprisingly fun for such a simple concept

For those going into this not expecting what the gameplay is, I would say its comparable to a game of minesweeper except on a 2x2 board.

It's an insanely simple concept, yet I still found myself playing few rounds continuously, I imagine it will be more fun in multiplayer as well. Execution is flawless though as Emojiminetest said, larger boards would be nice.

  • Basically gambling, except it's not addictive (because it's boring)

PLEASE NOTE: This review is written for the 2021 Minetest Game Jam version of this game, by a PARTICIPANT. I used Minetest version 5.4.1 to playtest.

The problem with this game is that the very game concept is not convincing. You just click squares and HOPE it randomly turns gray or green. And it seems there's only one level. I can't see how this could be possibly fun for more than 10 seconds. To me, it feels very boring. This is very subjective, I just write about my feelings here.

But it is probably a good thing this game itea is so utterly boring, because then casinos might sure as hell might find a way to capitalize on it. ;-) Even slot machines are more "engaging" than this. I am biased, of course, since I DESPISE casinos and gambling mechanics and this looks like a classic casino game, except it probably won't get adopted.

    OVERALL: 21 (Great)

    CONCLUSION

Not much was going on in this game, I think it might be kind of fun if you could add a few things: maybe add new maps, add a timer for 1 minute (or 30s), and each time you get one right, you get 3 points, when you get one wrong, you lose a point, then after the timer goes off, it shows you your score, and your highscore. Thanks for participating!

  • Simplicity and randomness: a good mix

This minigame is a good example of what the jam was looking for, I believe. I bet you could get better scores when playing with dedicated friends, since the gameplay is completely chance- based; this will really test your determination to reach the highscore.

I hope that gameplay will be kept just as simple as the current one in future releases, because it really makes it a special competitive experience.

Post- Jam development should focus on:

    • polishing player experience (e.g. change the background for all players when one reaches certain score milestones, represent player scores in the lobby space);

    • implementing a crude betting system to keep players engaged.

Pretty self- contained, when trying to kill time.

    Pros

    • Nice music
    • Exciting gaming experience

    Cons

    • Board size fixed
    • Music in-game is too soft

    Overall

This game is simple, fast, and nice as Simple Fast Inventory. (XD)

    By the way

    • I made a server (toyshost2.ddns.net:30040) for this game!
